Latin American Studies Association Newsletter / Agosto 2026

LASA Venezuela
LASA Venezuela

We are honored to unveil issue No. 45 of the LASA Venezuelan Studies Section newsletter—the first prepared by the new Executive Committee. For those of us who have taken on this responsibility, it is an honor to continue this initiative, which has become a vital space for sharing our community’s activities, achievements, publications, opportunities, and projects. We hope to help strengthen this communication channel and sustain the exchange of ideas among those who—across various disciplines, institutions, and countries—study and reflect on Venezuela.

However, this issue is marked by an event that deeply affects us all. The earthquakes on June 24th have left a profound impact on many Venezuelan families, resulting in the loss of life, material damage, and immense recovery challenges. The Section on Venezuelan Studies (SVS) once again expresses its solidarity with all those affected and acknowledges the efforts of those who have provided aid and support. Although the emergency may no longer dominate the headlines, needs persist, and the reconstruction process is only just beginning. Therefore, before presenting the contents of this issue, we are sharing a selection of organizations and initiatives that continue to provide on-the-ground aid and through which those interested can contribute to these efforts:
