YO PIENSO POSITIVO

As a professor who came from another country with other languages, as a daughter and sister of university professors, as a mother of a daughter who is a teacher of migrant kids, and as a mother of my son who is a student supported by Oklahoma Promise and FAFSA, and as someone who believes that our online classes are wonderful places that include an unlimited map of our experiences, my teaching philosophy is this:
· Social/emotional learning is a significant part of any curriculum. I want to be thoughtful about planning, engaged with my class, and invested in learning a second language and the heritage of Latin American culture.
· In my Spanish class, my students receive ample opportunity and support to be successful in some manner as part of a strong foundation and inclusive classroom community.
· I believe education is rooted in certain long-held, unchanging truths but requires constant reevaluation and learning. It also requires curiosity, critical thinking, and a love of lifelong learning. My Spanish classes relate to different lines of time; each student can use one to create a personal and particular way to learn.
· In my evaluation, I have found that allowing students to engage in interdisciplinary learning better prepares them for the “real world” than teaching singular content. We always talk about our material and our lives because it’s a particular experience that allows us to travel. We travel to another country each week, dance, and learn about our valuable connections with other cultures.
